🚗 Transportation, Force & Motion

Learning Science Through Hands-On Exploration
At The Wonder Dot Childcare, our Transportation theme grew into a hands-on exploration of Force & Motion and Simple Machines, helping children discover how things move and how science connects to everyday life.
🚗 Exploring Transportation
Children explored transportation on land, in the air, and on water, and learned about special vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks, and school buses.
Through counting wheels, matching cars to colored parking spaces, following driving routes, and completing 1–30 dot-to-dot vehicles, children practiced early math, sorting, sequencing, spatial awareness, and fine motor skills.
Literacy was naturally integrated throughout the theme. Children reviewed P, F, S, L, M, and N, practiced early CVC blending (-at, mat), and used a Mouse Bot to find letters while following left and right directions — combining phonics with early coding and problem-solving skills.
Stories, songs, and movement such as Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, Where Do Trucks Sleep at Night?, and The Wheels on the Bus made learning even more engaging.
🍃 Discovering Force & Motion
Next, we began asking: What makes things move?
Children experimented with push, pull, gravity, air resistance, magnetism, and buoyancy. They dropped paper and scarves, tested how changing the shape of paper affected its fall, and explored ramps to discover which objects roll, slide, or stay.
Instead of simply being told what would happen, children were encouraged to predict, observe, compare, and test their ideas.
⚙️ Simple Machines in Everyday Life
Our exploration continued with Simple Machines — including wheels and axles, levers, pulleys, inclined planes, gears, and screws.
Children moved heavy toy bins with wheels, built simple levers, lifted objects with pulleys, experimented with ramps, and explored how gears work together.
Through these experiences, children discovered that simple machines are everywhere — in our toys, vehicles, tools, buildings, and everyday lives — helping us move, lift, build, and work more efficiently.
🌱 Learning Through Discovery
At The Wonder Dot Childcare, we believe science is not about memorizing facts — it is about discovering how the world works.
Our learning journey moved naturally from:
Transportation → Movement → Force → Simple Machines
Through hands-on STEAM experiences, children learn to observe, ask questions, predict, experiment, problem-solve, and try again.
✨ Learning through hands-on exploration.
✨ Curiosity leads to discovery.
✨ Every child is a little scientist.
