Life Cycles

In March, we explored the theme of Life Cycles, helping children discover how living things grow and change over time. We learned about the life cycles of insects, amphibians, reptiles, plants, mammals, and humans through a variety of hands-on and funny experiences.

-Children explored the butterfly🦋 life cycle by creating caterpillar and butterfly art, acting out crawling and flying movements, and reading stories like The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

-They learned about frogs🐸 through sensory water play, life cycle sequencing, jumping games, and songs.

-During our reptile unit, children created turtle🐢 shell rubbings, made snake crafts, and explored reptile egg matching activities.

-In our plant🪴 life cycle study, children planted seeds, observed sprouting, created flower and leaf art, and learned what plants need to grow through simple science experiments.

-We also explored mammal and human🧑‍🤝‍🧑 life cycles through family-themed stories, baby animal matching games, dramatic play, and growth sequencing activities.

Throughout the month, children engaged in art projects, collages, printmaking, crafts, storytelling, music and movement, shadow matching games, sensory play, and STEAM activities, allowing them to build early science knowledge while developing creativity, fine motor skills, observation skills, and a deeper appreciation for living things.

In March, children explored special holiday learning experiences through hands-on activities filled with curiosity and fun.

-During St. Patrick’s Day🍀, our classroom was surprised by a mischievous leprechaun who “visited” and left the toys and furniture in a big mess! Children were excited to investigate what happened and searched for the shiny gold coins the leprechaun left behind, sparking imagination, problem-solving, and lots of laughter.

-For Pi Day🥧, children were introduced to early math and science concepts by exploring the number 3.141—using cubes and beads to build the numbers 3, 1, and 4, tasting delicious lemon pie, and measuring the circumference of different circular objects with yarn to compare which circle was bigger.

-During National Crayon Day🖍️, we celebrated creativity and individuality by reminding children that each person is unique, just like every crayon creates its own beautiful color in the world. Alongside these special events, children also continued learning about reptiles through hands-on art, sensory exploration, and science activities that encouraged observation, creativity, and discovery.
