Building & Engineering ποΈπ
Throughout August, our little learners explored the exciting world of Building & Engineering through hands-on experiments, stories, math, literacy, art, music, and creative problem-solving.
Inspired by The Three Little Pigs, we began with a big question: How can we build a strong house for the little pigs?
Children explored different building materials and learned about the engineering process: design → draw → plan → build → test → improve. They created their own house plans, built structures, and tested them with “wind” and “rain” to see if they were strong and water-resistant. As the project grew, children also designed rivers and bridges and added creative details to complete their little environments.
We also learned about architects, engineers, construction workers, tools, and construction vehicles, connecting real-world knowledge with our play and projects.
Learning Across the Curriculum
π΅ Literacy & Math: We practiced letters B, C, and D, CVC word families such as -ag and -ad, counting, simple addition, patterns, sorting, sequencing, and shapes.
π’ Chinese: Children explored δΈγδΊγδΈγεγε·₯γζ¨γεγη³, connecting Chinese learning with numbers, materials, and our building theme.
π£ Art & Music: We explored Keith Haring’s Pop Art, experimented with open-ended art materials, played rhythm instruments, and enjoyed music and movement.
π Social-Emotional Learning: Through Kimochi Friends and everyday classroom experiences, we practiced kindness, gentle hands, taking turns, sharing, and working together.
By the end of the month, one simple question had grown into a meaningful STEAM journey filled with designing, building, testing, problem-solving, and creating.
At The Wonder Dot, we encourage children to wonder, explore, create, and discover—because every little idea can grow into something wonderful. β¨
